No one wants to lose a tooth. Unfortunately, many people face the prospect of needing a tooth extracted, have already had one or more teeth removed, or have lost teeth as a result of facial trauma. Dental implants can replace missing teeth while appearing and functioning like natural teeth. A dental implant replaces both the root and crown of the tooth. This is accomplished using a surgical-grade titanium screw as an artificial root to support a custom-made replacement tooth crown.
At Southern Oral & Facial Surgery, our goal is to restore your smile in the most efficient and predictable way possible. In many instances, a dental implant can be placed in the same visit immediately following a tooth extraction. Unlike bridges and dentures, dental implants preserve the health of neighboring teeth and prevent localized bone loss that usually occurs in the area of a missing tooth. Through proper home care and regular dental hygiene visits, dental implants can last a lifetime. To determine whether dental implants are right for you, please make an appointment at Southern Oral & Facial Surgery.
Wisdom teeth develop in the back of the mouth and are typically the last teeth to erupt. While it is completely normal for someone to develop all 32 teeth, including wisdom teeth, the jaw typically does not have enough space to allow this last set of molars to come in the mouth. Many people do not realize that wisdom teeth, also called third molars, may cause oral health problems including infections, dental cavities, gum disease, and in some cases cysts or tumors. Many of these issues develop without symptoms but can still cause damage to the surrounding teeth and bone.
At Southern Oral & Facial Surgery, we recommend that wisdom teeth be evaluated and removed early, preferably during the mid- to late teens, to determine if these teeth are at risk for causing future problems. When you have your wisdom teeth removed at Southern Oral & Facial Surgery, you will receive high-quality care from our specialists and skilled surgical team. Dr. Young and Dr. Clark are specially trained and qualified to administer all levels of anesthesia to ensure you have a safe and comfortable treatment experience.
Traditional dentures often limit what one can eat and can adversely affect how food tastes and feels, and can move or fall out during normal everyday functions. Because of these limitations, many people who face losing their teeth to decay or gum disease are looking for a permanent, cost-effective alternative to traditional dentures to replace their teeth.
The All-on-4® Treatment Concept provides a comfortable, secure, and natural-looking alternative to replace missing or failing teeth. In many cases, a full set of upper and/or lower teeth can be replaced in just one visit. In this procedure, four dental implants are placed, often at the time of tooth removal, and a full set of temporary replacement teeth is secured to the dental implants in the same visit. This allows you to leave the office with a set of teeth that looks natural and you can begin to use immediately. After a brief healing period, a custom-made set of permanent replacement teeth is attached to optimize durability and aesthetics.
