About Dr. Lewallen
Dr. Brad Lewallen grew up in Germantown, TN, right outside of Memphis. A mission trip to India with dentists sparked his initial interest in oral surgery. He also enjoyed being able to provide immediate and substantial relief to patients. He wanted a job that allowed him to practice larger surgical cases, participate in the medical aspect, but still in the dental field. He is excited to be a part of the Southern Oral & Facial Surgery team because of his interest in full-service implant treatment.
Dr. Lewallen enjoys working as part of a team to help find comprehensive solutions to patients’ problems. He’s glad to be able to treat both children and adults while practicing the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The most rewarding aspect of oral surgery for Dr. Lewallen is getting to know people — colleagues and patients alike. He’s proud to have people come to him when they need help and let them into their life so that he can provide them with relief and satisfaction. He works hard to treat all of his patients like they’re a part of his family and is always happen to listen to their concerns.
Dr. Lewallen attended Samford University for his undergraduate career, where he graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in history and Pre-Dental. He then chose to move abroad to Scotland to continue his education, earning his Masters in Public Health (MSc) at the University of Edinburgh in 2005. After his MSc had been completed, he returned to the States to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2009. As an extra step and a way for Dr. Lewallen to provide his patients with the highest level of care, he chose to attend medical school at Vanderbilt University and earned his medical degree in 2015.
As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Lewallen has obtained the highest licensure available. To earn his certification, he was required to complete a rigorous written exam and several oral exams to demonstrate his exemplary knowledge of the oral and maxillofacial specialty. He must continue his education and meet the highest standards of care to maintain his certification.
While attending Vanderbilt University to earn his medical degree, Dr. Lewallen was simultaneously completing his oral and maxillofacial surgical residency. During his residency, he trained alongside surgeons and licensed anesthesiologists. He gained valuable skills in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and the safe administration of anesthesia.
Outside of work, Dr. Lewallen is very focused on his family. He and his wife have four children whom they adore. They are always looking for new adventures to go on as a family. He and his wife are also foodies and love going to new restaurants. When they have time, they also enjoy going to local live music venues. Dr. Lewallen is excited to raise his family in such a friendly and southern-oriented community.
